New Balance’s older models often inform their exciting newer developments. This week, a new sneaker from the Boston brand has leaked in a single image, showing us a mashup of the 9060 and 993, which we are calling the 9093.
The New Balance promise has always been about stability. The brand got its start in the early 1900s as The New Balance Company, offering arch support inserts that promised to give you an entirely new sense of balance. After moving on to full fledged footwear, the Boston brand’s catalog has always been marked by their thick, wide sole units and consistency in styling, colors, and comfort. Stability at its finest. Their archival sneakers even remain in rotation to this day, in case you found a model right for your foot and intend to keep buying it forever. The poster child(ren) of this idea is the 99x series, a running line originating in the 80s that is still receiving regular updates over forty years later. The line has inspired some of the brand’s newer work as well, like the 9060 lifestyle shoe that has become one of their most popular silhouettes in recent years.
In 2026, New Balance is combining the two for a fresh model, the 9093. Information about this upcoming release is very limited, but the lone picture of the shoe tells us all we need to know. The upper takes design cues directly from the 993, and pairs them with the chunky, stable sole unit of the 9060. Some new paneling has been added around the perimeter of the shoe, including a new molded suede mudguard. Mesh and leather make up the rest of the new sneaker, seen here in a soft mix of white, cream, and lavendar tones.
