New Balance’s updated version of the classic 574 is rolling out in new colorways this season, adding some enticing new pairs to release calendars this week. Today, we have a closer look at a NB Japan exclusive, the 57/40 in burgundy and navy tones.

The New Balance 57/40 made its official debut back in January, when the Boston-based brand teamed up with Japan’s mita sneakers to unveil their modern-day, refined version of the classic ’80s 574. Based heavily on this vintage design, but infused with plenty of New Balance signatures, the 57/40 is a refreshing chunky lifestyle shoe from a brand known for its exquisite grey palette. This week, New Balance rolled out a handful of new colorways of the 57/40 around the globe, like the Japanese-exclusive color scheme we are taking a closer look at today. This pair features a heavily mixed color scheme, beginning with a burgundy mesh base at the toe and grey at the heels, before adding suede overlays in burgundy, navy blue, and black. The signature New Balance ‘N’ logo stands out in an off-white tone, while electric blue highlights its edges. Finally, the 57/40 is mounted on top of a dual-layered EVA foam midsole for maximum comfort.

NEW BALANCE 57/40 “BURGUNDY/NAVY” RELEASE INFORMATION

New Balance’s latest colorways of the 57/40 are slowly popping up in different regional releases, with the burgundy, navy, and black rendition seen here currently available only from New Balance Japan, though a global drop is expected in the coming weeks. The new color schemes of the New Balance 57/40 come with a new lowered price tag of $100, likely accounting for the premium materials used in early renditions.
