The New Balance 550 basketball sneaker is slowly arriving in new colorways, and if the brand’s latest leaks are any indication, the retro model is here to stay. Today, we have an early look at a new purple-based color scheme, dropping next week.

New Balance continues to unveil new colorways of the vintage 550 sneaker, adding onto the already mountainous hype the silhouette has created in the past year. The 550, a low-top leather basketball shoe from the late ’80s, first made its return last year, in collaboration with New York’s Aimé Leon Dore. While new colorways were hard to come by for many months afterward, likely due to COVID-related shipping delays, New Balance finally seems to be on top of things, releasing fresh versions on a seemingly monthly basis so far in 2021. This week, we have an early look at the new “Purple” color scheme arriving later this month, which remixes the white leather and grey suede color blocking we’ve come to love with new bright purple accents across the 550’s upper.
