New Balance’s 2002R has taken a backseat to some of their other mainline styles this year, slowing down its releases. However, the popular retro runner appears to be ramping back up for the second half of the year, including a new “USA” red, white, and blue colorway dropping in Summer 2024.
The New Balance 2002R was somewhat of a failure for the brand when it originally released in 2010. The model was known just as the 2002 at the time, and featured premium materials and a lot of gel cushioning underfoot, and came with a hefty price tag of $250. Fast forward twelve years, and New Balance refined the silhouette, swapping out the midsole for that of the 860v2, and cutting the price in half. The shoe’s reintroduction in 2022 helped NB continue to ride their wave of immense popularity, bringing dozens of colors and collaborations in the years since.
This week, New Balance has pulled back the curtain on a number of new styles for their older running shoe. The 2002R has taken a small hiatus so far in 2024 so that models like the 1906 and 1000 could shine, but now the silhouette is back for the back half of the year. Today we have an early look at a new “USA” style for the shoe, likely coming around the start of this year’s Olympic Games. The shoes feature a white mesh base layer with dark navy blue suede for its mid and outer layers. Hints of red appear on the ‘N’ logos and heel counters to complete the look.

New Balance’s upcoming colorway of the 2002R for this Summer’s Olympics has not been announced for release yet, but will likely arrive sometime later this Summer. Dressed in navy blue, white, and red, the “USA” edition will be available from the brand’s website and select retailers, with a price tag of $145.
