New Balance’s 2002R silhouette returned in full retro form this year, kicked off by a series of collaborations with some of our favorite NB partners. Now, as more standard-issue pairs land on shelves, New Balance quietly delivered its black suede version, available now.

The return of New Balance’s 2002R runner from the turn of the century has been a massive hit for the Boston brand so far this year, a revival that kicked off late in 2020 with a string of limited brand collaborations. Now, the Boston-based brand is filling its shelves with new colorways of the 2002R, including a triple-black makeup that surfaced on the New Balance website earlier this week. This iteration, built from a mix of suede and soft leather, mixes black with grey mid-layers for a stealthy, sophisticated look for the retro runner. The signature New Balance ‘N’ logo has been embroidered for this edition, while the 2002R branding stands out on the lateral sides in green and yellow stitching.
