New Balance’s 2002R has been a staple of their catalog for the past few years, regularly releasing in new styles and colorways. This year, the Boston brand is gearing up to introduce a new textural variant of the silhouette, featuring a quilted leather base for the upper, coming soon.
The New Balance 2002R was somewhat of a failure for the brand when it originally released in 2010. The model was known just as the 2002 at the time, and featured premium materials and a lot of gel cushioning underfoot, and came with a hefty price tag of $250. Fast forward twelve years, and New Balance refined the silhouette, swapping out the midsole for that of the 860v2, and cutting the price in half. The resulting rework has been a huge success for the Boston brand, with a massive range of colors and styles releasing in the past few years since its return.
This week, we have an early look at a new variation of the 2002R, with some unique textures added. The latest new look features a diamond quilted pattern across its leather base layer, giving the shoe a winter-ready look. The rest of the pair is built from suede overlays, all of which are cast in white, with hints of brown for the heel tabs and midsole accents.
