The New Balance 2002R Protection Pack took the sneaker world by storm in 2020. Now, after a handful of follow-up releases, the brand has unveiled a new series, rebuilt with ripstop textiles and toggle lacing.

The New Balance 2002R has been a hit since the shoe was first retroed in 2020. Since then, we’ve seen released of the older running model nearly nonstop, from collaborations to special projects like the Protection Pack. The series’ jagged edges and broken-in look made them immensely popular, which NB has capitalized on in the years since. Now, they’ve quietly unveiled a new style for the pack, which rebuilds the silhouette using ripstop textile base layers, and added outdoor-inspired toggle lacing systems. Four colorways have been shared so far, including a ‘Moss’ olive green, ‘Eclipse’ navy blue, ‘High Desert’ brown, and ‘Turtledove’ cream white.

New Balance’s next release of the 2002R’s Protection Pack series has not been announced for release yet, though they are expected to drop sometime in 2023. Now featuring ripstop base layers and toggle lacing, pairs will likely be available from both the brand and select retailers for an expected $170.
