The success of New Balance’s Protection Pack 2002R from last year has spawned a wave of new colorways, adding more styles to both the 2002 and now, the 1906R. This week, we got an early look at a new ‘Black’ pair, coming soon.

New Balance’s Protection Pack (or Refined Future) release from last year featuring the 2002R was a massive hit, making its way onto a number of ‘Best Of’ lists for the year, even as an in-line release. While numbers were somewhat limited and incredibly hard to get, the brand has plenty more colors on the way, with several already popping up at various global retailers. This week, a new color scheme emerged, decking out the 2002 in a simple ‘Black’ color scheme. The pair begins with a black mesh base layer, adding mid layers in off-white and grey suedes. The outer portions of the shoe come in jet black suede, with 3M reflective elements for the ‘N’ logos and heels, while a tan and white midsole completes the look.
