New Balance’s 2002R has taken over the brand’s releases, rivaling the popularity of the 990 line. This week, the retro runner is heading outdoors, with two new hiking boot-inspired colorways.

Since its launch in 2020, the New Balance 2002R has remained a spectacularly popular sneaker amongst ‘heads and everyday wearers alike. Featuring turn-of-the-century aethestics and a healthy mix of subtle and loud colorways as well as exciting collaborations, the 2002 has quickly become a staple of the NB lineup. This week, two new colorways of the ’02R popped up overseas in Korea, adding some interesting new details and layers to the silhouette, inspired by classic hiking boots. Featuring a mixed construction of mesh and sturdy leather, these new pairs add a full leather toe and mudguard, hooked eyelets near the collar, and rope laces for a more secure fit. One pair comes in a lush brown tone paired with black layers and accents in navy blue, red, and green. The second is much brighter, opting for an off-white base with tan and pink elements added.
