The JoeFreshGoods x New Balance 2002R “Conversations Amongst Us” Releases Tomorrow

Last week, New Balance and JoeFreshGoods announced “Conversations Amongst Us”, a new project focusing on relating the Black American experience, starting things off with a fresh take on the 2002R.

New Balance and JoeFreshGoods already have a new project lined up for us, with JFG serving as the creative director for the endeavor. Dubbed ‘Conversations Amongst Us’, the collaboration sees the Fat Tiger Workshop founder working alongside Black Soles, an all-Black collective of New Balance associates, telling stories based in the Black American experience. Following his announcement of serving as the director, JFG took to Instagram to unveil the first piece of the project, the 2002R. Dressed nearly in all white, with accent colors in mustard yellow with some tiny blue hints, this 2002R mixes ripstop with suede, TPU, and leather overlays across its upper. The shoe also comes with several options for lace colors, so far seen in white, blue, and sail. The project will also feature an apparel range, which JoeFreshGoods teased in the form of some bold yellow sweatpants. The collection is also said to include new colorways of the 550, 574, and Kawhi II sneakers, with more apparel accompanying each. It is currently unclear whether the collection will release all at once, or roll out in phases starting with the 2002R.

The upcoming ‘Conversations Amongst Us’ campaign from New Balance, directed by JoeFreshGoods, will likely debut with this mustard-tinted 2002R this season, though no specific date has been announced. The limited-edition look will be accompanied by a matching apparel capsule collection, likely releasing exclusively through New Balance, though we would not be surprised if a global boutique release followed up after the debut. UPDATE 4/11/22: JoeFreshGoods’ next New Balance project, the ‘Conversations Amongst Us’ 2002R, has been announced for release later this week, on April 15th, 2022. The date comes from FinishLine’s launch calendar, which has the shoes listed for exclusive access. The project will likely also be available from New Balance and other third-party retailers.
