Key Details
- The New Balance 1954R combines the Abzorb sole from the 1890, the upper design of the 2010, and the 1906's plastic heel cage.
- The silhouette features wide gauge mesh as a base layer with synthetic and leather midlayers plus pigskin suede overlays throughout.
- The model joins New Balance's annual tradition of releasing new techy lifestyle runners following the brand's successful 2002 resurgence in 2020.

New Balance has fallen into a groove of dropping a new techy runner silhouette each year. The 1890 is still in its early days, but NB already has a second new lifestyle runner on the way for 2026; the 1954R.
Surprise! New Balance has another fresh addition to their lifestyle catalog on the way this season. The Boston brand has spent the past few years building up their everyday footwear offerings, still building on the remarkable success of the 2002 runner in 2020. Each year since then, NB has delivered a new or retro model repurposed or designed for casual wear, borrowing design elements from various other popular models along the way. 2026 brought us the 1890, a new model that has dominated the last three months of sneaker releases with special projects from Action Bronson, JoeFreshGoods, Stone Island, and soon, JJJJound.
Despite the 1890 still being in its infancy as far as New Balance staples go, this week we have an early look at another new addition to their techy runner lineup. Little is known about the model aside from its name; the 1954R. The shoe is seen here an entirely flat grey color scheme, covering its entire mixed material upper, which uses wide gauge mesh for a base, synthetic & leather midlayers, and pigskin suede overlays. The silhouette is something of a mashup of other popular models, built on the same Abzorb sole unit as the 1890, with an upper similar in design to the 2010 model from last year, and the plastic heel cage from the 1906. New Balance has yet to share any official information regarding the new 1954R.
NEW BALANCE 1954R RELEASE INFORMATION
The upcoming fresh silhouette from New Balance has not been formally announced yet, so details about the 1954R are currently scarce. Seen here in a flat grey style, the photos are NB’s own official images, so we expect the rollout is set to start sometime soon, with pairs arriving during Summer or Fall 2026. Without any official information about the new model, its hard to say what the price tag for a new silhouette will be, but a safe guess would be in the $160 range.
