New Balance has slowly been cooking up a ‘Protection Pack’ slate of colorways for the 1906D, applying jagged overlays to the retro runner. This week, a black edition surfaced in official images, coming soon.

The New Balance 1906 is finally available to the masses, providing yet another excellent retro-inspired runner for the Boston brand’s arsenal. Building on top of the 2002R’s midsole unit, the new silhouette pairs the brand’s excellent use of layering with a running aesthetic, allowing for any number of interesting color combinations. In recent months, we’ve seen a number of new 1906 colorways in the ‘Protection Pack’ style popularized by its predecessor, another of which has emerged this week. Covering the upper almost entirely in black, this new pair mixes in shades of medium grey to the shoe’s jagged layers, as well as some hints of cream for the ‘N’ logos and a light grey inner lining.
