The New Balance 574 has been a staple of the brand’s arsenal since its introduction 1988. Now, over thirty years later, the Boston footwear manufacturer is following up on the classic with a modern-day update. Check out the New Balance 57/40, coming soon.

The New Balance 574 first released in 1988, intended to improve technical running with its high level of comfort, but has since stuck around as one of the brand’s classic styles thanks to its timeless design. Now, nearly 33 years after the original, the Boston-based brand is ready to introduce an update to the vintage runner to bring it fully into the modern-day. The New Balance 57/40 takes heavy inspiration from its predecessor, taking on the general shape and most of its paneling to retain the look and feel of the ’80s classic, all while bringing it to life with new colors, cuts, and technologies. Improvements among the 57/40 include a reinforced upper for better stability and long-term wear, taller, tougher midsole for durability and comfort, and heavy use of layering to create unique color blocking and shape. The initial colorways of the 57/40 are made largely from black or white suede and nubuck, with matching midsole accent colors in orange, green, red, purple, and blue.
