Kawhi has been quietly putting in work for quite a few NBA seasons, but this year his fame took off. Being shipped off to Toronto in a blockbuster trade, no one knew he would have this huge of an impact on the team. After the trade, a viral video appeared on the internet that took the NBA star to levels of fame he never knew was possible. Then in a whirlwind of events, it was announced that he was leaving Nike for New Balance, yes you read that correctly New Balance. The brand is something you don’t even associate with basketball players in a partnership but each other was just what both of them needed. With the viral memes, the newly announced partnership with New Balance, people began paying attention to his game like never before and he showed to everyone that he was a high-caliber player that could lead a team to a championship trophy.
Through a great season, he and the Toronto Raptors were able to make it to the playoffs. But the playoffs were not enough, they wanted more and they made it to the NBA Finals to try and get the city of Toronto it’s first NBA title. They had a tough task as they were going up against the monstrous roster of the Golden State Warriors but they were able to make it happen in game six. Through the ups, downs, memes, and doubts, Kawhi and the Raptors were victorious in the biggest stage. Through the buzz, New Balance was reaping their rewards as they had a light on them like never before as well.
Now as both have had a great year thus far, their collaboratory efforts do not end there. They look to release a “Championship pack” that consists of a New Balance 990 and 997 that bleed Toronto Raptors Spirit. Both silhouettes take on purple, red, and black and look great while doing it. Fun Guy Kawhi has proven that you do not need an outlandish personality, wear the hottest designer brands, or act up on social media to gain fans and influence. He let his game speak for itself, and the rewards followed. Take it all in Kawhi and New Balance, you both deserve this.
