Converse has announced a few of their special releases arriving in the coming weeks, particularly those slated to debut at ComplexCon this weekend. One highlight from the bunch is Joshua Vides’ customizable take on the ever-popular Chuck Taylor.

You might not know Joshua Vides’ name off the top of your head, but you definitely know his work. Late last year, the designer from Los Angeles, California first gained global attention when his customized Nike Air Force 1 surfaced online, taking the plain white colorway to the next level by highlighting all the seams in Sharpie. Vides’ style took off immediately, birthing a massive wave of fan-inspired designs, applying the look to everything from Vans to Jordan 1s to Clarks. Since then, Joshua’s been tapped by a number of brand’s to head up creative projects for them, like his latest work with Converse.

Earlier this week, Converse shared their sneak preview of what’s dropping at theit ComplexCon booth this weekend, and it looks like Joshua Vides front and center. Using the Chuck 70 as his canvas, the LA artist has crafted a colorful silhouette that can be customized in a number of ways by the wearer. The project appears to feature two distinct pairs, one in classic Converse colors of black and cream, and the second in a more vibrant combination of orange and green. The neutral colorway featured Vides’ signature outline technique in black along the midsole, while the brightly colored pair features the same additions in pale off-white. The highlight of the shoe is the removeable velcro uppers, which peel away to reveal a yet-to-be-seen colorway underneath.

Converse’s new collaboration with artist Joshua Vides was recently announced to be released first exclusively at ComplexCon Chicago on July 20th, followed by a global release on August 2nd, 2019. The interchangeable uppers on this special release help bring the retail price up to an even $100, and will likely be available from a variety of Converse retailers come August.
