New Balance is slowly reviving a few fan-favorite silhouettes from back in the day this year, with the latest being the 878. First seen in a project with size? earlier last week, the 878 returns from another UK retailer, END., in a new “Grey Gull” colorway.
New Balance’s 878 is back this month, after a brief hiatus from its initial string of retro releases around 2015 & 2016. First released in a special project with the UK’s size?, the vintage chunky runner surfaced in another new collaboration this week, this time with another London-based menswear retailer, END. Clothing. The 878 takes inspiration from the rocky coastlines of the United Kingdom, and the birds that dwell amongst them to create the new “Grey Gull” color scheme. The sneaker begins with a pale grey mesh base for the upper, lined with overlays in grey and black suede. The ‘N’ logo stands out in yellow with red outlining, a color palette that is repeated on the tongue, rear pull tab, and outsole. Resting on top of an ABZORB midsole, the END. Clothing x New Balance 878 “Grey Gull” is completed by co-branded insoles and lace aglets.

The latest project from New Balance and London’s END. Clothing is scheduled to release later this week on October 19th, 2019. The seagull-themed retro silhouette will be released in exclusive numbers from the British retailer for a cool $125, with no word on a wider release.
