New Balance and DTLR are back with a new project. This time around, the two are transforming the classic 997 and the modernized 997s into Perseus and Medusa, respectively, for the upcoming “Greek Gods” pack.

New Balance’s 997 has been a powerhouse silhouette for the Boston brand in the past few years, as the sneaker world’s obsession with retro runners has brought plenty of attention to the 99x series. Clearly the star of their special projects over the past several years, the 997’s simple and classic construction make it an excellent canvas for collaboration, like this month’s upcoming release with DTLR Villa, which models the 997 and the more recent 997s after Perseus and Medusa for the “Greek Gods” pack. Representing two sides of Greek mythology “good”, and “evil”, the pairs share a few of their main components, mainly the opposing light and dark shades of grey that make up each of their uppers, albeit in opposing color blocking. Perseus’ pair features dark iridescent 3M material for the tongue and heel, likely mimicking the mirrored shield he used to defeat Medusa, while the Gorgon’s pair sports golden yellow and baby blue accents along the two-toned grey upper, and completed by 3M iridescent trim.
