Converse’s ‘Renew’ initiative has been the focus of their sustainable efforts in recent months, though now it appears something new will be joining that lineup. Check out the new Chuck Taylor All-Star Crater, built from Nike’s Space Hippie materials.

Sustainability is the name of the game in sneakers and streetwear at the moment. With so many brands focused on using waste materials and minimizing their eco-footprint, it’s been an interesting few years to watch them adapt. However, one company has caught our eye so far in 2020, and that’s Nike. This year, the brand introduced an assortment of new eco-friendly initiatives, like the Space Hippie collection currently in the midst of its release cycle. The shoe’s are built entirely from waste material, things that Nike would have otherwise thrown in the trash (inspiring the collection’s slogan “This is trash”). However, it seems that the Space Hippie materials are not just reserved for the Swoosh. Earlier this week, Converse showed off their interpretation of the leftover rubbers and knit materials, which comes in the form of the Chuck Taylor All-Star Crater. The silhouette features a knit upper mounted on top of a Crater Foam midsole, all made from factory floor scraps. Additionally, the Chuck Taylor Crater will launch in three colorways, white, charcoal, and black, each with their own unique accent color.

Converse’s new Chuck Taylor All-Star Crater has officially been announced for release next week, on July 23rd, 2020. Following this week’s second release of the Space Hippie collection, the Chuck Taylor Crater will be available from both Converse, Nike SNKRS, and select retailers with a price tag of just $95 per colorway.
