Converse first announced their Renew initiative earlier this Summer, which pushes the brand’s designers to use recycled and environmentally friendly materials whenever possible. Now, the first release featured repurposed Denim is on the horizon.

Sustainability in footwear has become a do-or-die goal for many brands in recent years, as more and more research points to shoes as the main offender of pollution in the fashion industry. Luckily, many high-profile brands have been stepping up, introducing new and exciting methods to reduce the use of new materials, particularly through recycling. This week, Converse unveiled the first release of the Renew Initiative they announced last month, which sees the brand working with recycled denim on a pack of Chuck 70s. The various pairs feature three colors of denim on each, a light wash for the tongue, as well as mismatching dark and standard washes on the medial and lateral panels.

Despite Converse’s announcement of the new “Split Pack” collection of Chuck 70s constructed from the brand’s recycled denim, no specific release has been assigned yet, though we can expect them sometime in the coming weeks. Pairs will likely retail somewhere in the $100 given the special materials used, and release from both Converse and select retailers.
