Concepts’ sneaker projects are often a highlight of any given year, thanks to their incredible attention to detail and thorough story telling. This week, the retailer has unveiled their “Patina” New Balance 990v4, coming soon.
Sneaker collaborations are a dime a dozen right now, thanks to nearly every footwear brand on the planet embracing new ideas from outside parties over the last decade. Collabs used to be scarce, releasing every now and then to tell a truly special story or deliver an iconic colorway. Thanks to sneakers’ rise as a status symbol of the social media age, the output of team-up projects has increased dramatically, with several new releases every week. This is not a knock on sneaker collabs; they frequently bring new eyes and audiences to smaller brands, and that part is the highlight of modern-day sneaker culture.
Regardless of th new age of special projects, some longtime veterans like Boston-based retailer Concepts have kept their output consistent, working diligently on one or two projects at a time and releasing them with a fully fleshed out story and campaign to boot. This week, CNCPTS has unveiled their latest with New Balance, their longest collaborative relationship that has delivered some of the best Made in USA sneakers in history. The new project features the 990v4 in a “Patina” colorway, pitting the runner in white mesh with shades of brown, olive green, and deep burgundy accents. Announced via a video editorial, the shoes come packaged in a vintage suitcase-inspired box, complete with printed ‘stickers’ commemorating the sneaker and both brands involved. Each pair also comes with emerald green insoles, ribbon laces, and a luggage tag-inspired hangtag to complete the look.
