Parisian fashion label Casablanca has once again teamed up with New Balance to help debut a new silhouette from the Boston brand. Inspired by vintage racing shoes, check out the new XC-72, coming soon.
The ongoing collaboration between New Balance and Casablanca brand kicked off last year, with the Parisian brand aiding in the debut of the 327 runner, a now-wildly popular addition to the New Balance lineup. Now, almost a full year after the start of the partnership, New balance and Casablanca have another new sneaker to show off, the XC-72. Taking on a similar stance to 327, the new model shares one important source of inspiration with its predecessor; its creator. Designed for New Balance by Charlotte Lee, the same mind behind the 327, the XC-72 combines elements of past New Balance into an entirely new, fairly wild looking running-inspired silhouette. The XC-72 begins with a solid leather base layer reinforced by suede overlays, arranged in an aggressive, forward-leaning shape. The toebox features an extended outsole that reaches up the sides of the shoe, and some exaggerated geometry on top to create a unique color blocking. The XC-72 outsole features split traction, divided directly down the center into two very different styles of grip, one in simple dots and the other in rough lugs. Oversized New Balance ‘N’ logos once again brand the new sneaker, while double heel counters and a modified tongue shape complete the look.
CASABLANCA X NEW BALANCE XC-72 RELEASE INFORMATION
New Balance’s upcoming XC-72 silhouette has not yet been announced for release by the Boston brand, though they are expected to launch sometime in the Spring of 2021 alongside Casablanca’s upcoming “Grand Prix” collection. The XC-72, if anything like the 327, will initially be available in small batches before rolling out to retailers with a price tag somewhere in the $150 range, give or take. UPDATE 8/15/21: New Balance and Casablanca have officially begun the rollout on their next installment of the Casablanca Tennis Club project, this time introducing the new XC-72 to the Boston footwear brand’s arsenal. Described by the Parisian label as a “Sports car for your feet”, the new XC-72 will be available in two flashy colorways, orange, green, and white, and red, yellow, and white for $150 each. The project will launch later this month on August 27th from Casablanca, followed by a global release from New Balance and select retailers on August 28th.
