Asics’ Gel Kayano 5 runner is back in force. After making a grand return to the brand’s arsenal this year, the sleek runner has taken on numerous collaborative projects, including a stop in Tokyo this week for a Saturn-inspired project with Billy’s.
Reintroduced earlier this Summer, this is the Asics Gel Kayano 5 first reappearance since its original debut back in 1999. Since then, the vintage runner has become somewhat of a cult hit, thanks to its chunky yet sleek look and a wide variety of materials involved. So far this year, the Kayano 5 has made its round amongst Asics’ numerous collaborative partners, making another stop this week for a project with Billy’s of Tokyo. The Japanese retailer has taken inspiration from the solar system’s fifth planet, Saturn, for this release, echoing the gas giant’s color scheme and patterns across the mixed material upper. The mesh base layer comes in tan, overlaid with suede printed to mimic the Saturn’s appearance from space. Reflective 3M and orange accents add flare to the shoe, completing the look.

The latest release from Billy’s in Tokyo and footwear brand Asics launched over the past week on December 5th, 2019. The “Saturn”-themed Gel Kayano 5 is currently avialable for preorder from the overseas retailer for approximately $140, with no word on a wider release at the time.
