The New Balance 2002R continues to turn heads through exciting collaborations and limited-edition releases. This week, we have an early look at a new project from Japan’s atmos, turning the vintage runner into an homage to the humble city rat.

atmos is the source of dozens of the most beloved sneaker collaborations to ever release, producing most of their work for exclusive Japan-only releases. This week, we have an early look at their latest eye-catching project, this time teaming up with New Balance for a special release of the fan-favorite 2002R runner. The collaboration appears to be rodent-themed, taking its inspiration from the rats that occupy every major city on Earth. The new look begins with a pale grey mesh base layer for the shoe, adding some matching grey suede to act as a mid-layer. The mudguard is constructed from faux fur panelling, which also stretches into the shoe’s midfoot, where a dark grey leather layer features a debossed rat footprint pattern. The tongue and heel panels add plenty of 3M reflective elements, while a navy blue ‘N’ logo and rat-branded insole complete the look.
