The Asics Gel Kayano 5 has been a hit this year, from the revival of the OG to new fan favorite collaborations with Chemist Creations and Ronnie Fieg. Now, the Japanese brand’s Sportstyle division has unveiled their take on the classic silhouette.
The ASICS Gel Kayano 5 is getting an exciting new upgrade in the new year. Originally released in 1999, the shoe didn’t reappear on release shelves for 20 years, finally appeasing the pleas of vintage ASICS fans. Now, after a year packed with exciting releases, ASICS has unveiled the next step in the Gel Kayano’s evolution. Developed by the running brand’s SportStyle division in Japan, this look rebuilds the vintage running shoe with a new tongue and lacing system. The tongue is not attached to the outside of the shoe, with the upper becoming a single piece underneath. The laces still start at the base of the tongue, but instead they extend towards the top of the mudguard on either side of the shoe. The new SportStyle look features a similar construction to the original, with a mesh base layer and suede and leather overlays. The base layers of the shoe come in white, while the suede catches your attention in green and yellow, while blue and red accents complete the look.

ASICS SportStyle’ division has readied their unique new take on the classic Gel Kayano 5 OG to release soon, on January 1st, 2020.
