Asics’ Japanese roots have served as inspiration for a number of the brand’s recent special-edition projects, and with this year’s Olympics going down in Tokyo, there are even more on the way. This week, we have an early look at the “Goraiko” GT-II, coming soon.

Japanese running shoe company Asics has a massive archive of footwear from over the years, showcasing the evolution of running shoes as a whole from the brand’s founding in 1977. Among this array of sneakers are plenty of beloved classics, like the 1986 GT-II runner, Asics’ first running shoe produced outside of Japan featuring the famous GEL technology in the midsoles. Now, Asics is celebrating the historic model, reviving the GT-II in its original form, complete with plush suede uppers and the OG external heel clip. For this limited-edition two-pack of colorways, Asics takes its inspiration from Mt. Fuji and the view of the sunrise from its peak. Available in two colorways, Azure and Pale Apricot, both pairs feature Mt. Fuji graphics on the insoles and heels to complete the look.
