Japanese brand Asics’s GEL franchise has exploded in recent years, thanks to a renewed love of retro running styles. This month, the line expanded, as the brand debuted the new GEL-Kyrios, a mashup of two classic Asics silhouettes.

The Asics GEL-Kyrios made its debut earlier this week, and is already available directly from the brand’s website. At first glance, the may appear fairly familiar, and that is with good reason. The design for the brand new look is a mashup of two that we’ve seen before. The upper is pulled and reworked from the Asics GEL-Helios, a layered mesh and leather runner first introduced in 2005 before it was retired the following year. Meanwhile, the midsole is taken directly from the Gel-Kiril silhouette that debuted as a part of the Kiko Kostadinov x Asics project. Now applied in a more widely-obtainable use, the sole unit incorporates GEL inserts in various places stretching from heel to toe. The new GEL-Kyrios debuted in five colorways, featuring some colorful odes to classic Asics looks, as well as simple black and white stylings.
