The Asics Gel Kayano 5 returned to retail shelves for the first time since the ’90s last year, and they’ve been a hit. Now, asics is returning to the drawing board to cook up a slightly modernized version of the classic runner, subtitled the GEL Kayano 5 RE.
The ASICS Gel Kayano 5 is getting an exciting new upgrade in the new year. Originally released in 1999, the shoe didn’t reappear on release shelves for 20 years, finally appeasing the pleas of vintage ASICS fans. Now, after a year packed with exciting releases, ASICS has unveiled the next step in the Gel Kayano’s evolution. Titled the GEL Kayano 5 RE, the new version is simply a reconstructed version of the original, complete with modernized layering and materials. Arriving in two initial colorways, yellow and beige, the Kayano 5 RE features a new neoprene mesh base layer, with a larger emphasis on suedes and leathers used throughout the overlays. Each overlay features a tye-dye like layer peeking out from underneath, while thin rope laces complete the look.
