Asics’ classic GEL-Kayano 14 runner has made a surprising reappearance in the brand’s lineup this year, shortly following a colorful update from recent Asics designer Kiko Kostadinov. Now, the GK-14 is back in new colorways this week.

The Asics GEL-Kayano 14 was first introduced in 2008, then simply the next stepping stone in a still ongoing line of GEL-Kayano running shoes. The franchise, originally conceived in the 1990s to further cushioning technology over long distances, had been a massive success for Asics thus far, and has continued to maintain its position as the leading performance sneaker from the Japanese brand until this day. Now, however, the GEL-Kayano 14 is more a retro artifact than a performance runner, a transition that Asics has been celebrating with new colorways of the classic shoe intended for lifestyle wear. This week, the GK-14 emerged in two new in-line colors, coating the silhouette in tonal shades of either “Mako Blue” or “Piedmont Grey”, both signature color schemes from the brand.
