- The shoe represents Jordan Brand's increased retro frequency for iconic colorways, previously released once per decade through the 2000s.

Jordan Brand’s retros of their most iconic releases have become more and more frequent in the past decade. This holiday season, the Air Jordan 4 is readying for another retro of the OG “Bred” palette.
For decades, Jordan Brand has been fiercely protective of their iconic colorway and silhouette pairings, like the Bred & Chicago 1s, Cement 3s, and Bred 4s. Pairs are famously scarce, limited in number to manufacture hype around these all-time classic sneakers, which they certainly earned in on-court moments with Michael Jordan. In the past decade, the Jumpman has grown noticeably more lax regarding these iconic styles, issuing retros with increasing frequency and minute changes to make them different from the last. Previously, you’d see a Bred AJ1 or AJ4 release once a decade. This year, we’ll get our second release of the Air Jordan 4’s OG black and red look for the second time in less than seven years.
The change in frequency for beloved colorways is not necessarily a bad thing. Longtime Jumpman collectors typically have multiple pairs each of these true classics, and ramping up releases and stock units gives younger generations a chance to get elusive icons and learn the stories behind them along the way. The last time we saw the Bred Jordan 4 was in 2019, though honestly it feels much more recent than that. Currently slated for a release in November, this years edition has been promised to be the most accurate to the 1989 pairs yet, featuring a refined shape, Nike Air branding on the heels, and white edges for the black nubuck leather paneling. Originally leaked by @zSneakerHeadz and SneakerFiles back in March, the first image of the new pair has finally surfaced this week.
