New Balance and New York-based menswear brand Aimé Leon Dore have been cooking up some of the hottest collaborations in sneakers recently, and this month, they’ve announced the next entry in the exciting partnership: the P550 Basketball Oxford.

Aimé Leon Dore’s series of collaborations with New Balance has put both brands at the top of the watch list for sneakers and menswear since they first teamed up last year to relaunch the classic New Balance 850. Since then, the two have released a small collection of collaborations, so far featuring the 997, 990v2 and v5, and the 827 runners, each one dressed in colorful tones against otherwise plain backgrounds. Now, the two are reuniting for another project in 2020, this time extending their dual efforts past the product release and into their community, unveiling the latest project through Team SONNY, a local 15u AAU basketball team. The new project focuses on the 1984 P550 Basketball Oxford, an unusual hoops shoe when it released in 1984 thanks to its dual-purpose as both an athletic shoe and a handsome leather sneaker, as well as the whopping $100 price point, now what would be $250 in today’s dollars.

Aimé Leon Dore’s next release with footwear partners New Balance, the P550 Basketball Oxford, has not yet been announced for release, though they are expected to drop sometime in the coming weeks. The retro hoop-turned-lifestyle model will be available first from ALD, with a potential secondary release from third-party retailers afterward.
