adidas Originals’ new trail-ready take on its beloved NMD_R1 first emerged last month, finally giving us a thoughtful successor to 2015’s hottest silhouette. Now, the NMD_R1 Trail is ready for another upgrade, this time in the form of water-repellant GORE-TEX, coming soon.

adidas NMDs equipped with GORE-TEX technologies is not a new thing – in fact, the first time the two were joined was back in 2017, with the launch of the NMD City Sock GORE-TEX. Since then, a handful of NMD releases have included a protective GORE element, but not quite as prominently as the upcoming NMD_R1 Trail. Nearly identical to the original NMD, this is the pair we have been waiting years to receive this weather-ready upgrade, and adidas is finally ready to oblige. The blacked-out NMD features an intricate new Primeknit upper with flecks of grey to add visual texture, GORE-TEX branding emerges from underneath the stability overlay in bold black block lettering. The outsole is even beefed up a bit, to provide a better grip on rocky trail surfaces.

adidas Originals’ latest release of its new NMD_R1 Trail, now with a GORE-TEX water repellent coating, is already available from adidas websites overseas, with a stateside release expected in the coming weeks. Theis blacked-out colorway will come with an elevated price tag somewhere in the $200 range, and release from both adidas and select retailers.
