A Ma Maniére wrapped up their extensive While You Were Sleeping collection with Nike and Jordan this month. This week, a previously unseen part of the project surfaced, a Converse Chuck Taylor, which will not see a public release.
A Ma Maniére’s partnership with Nike took a leap forward this year, with their “While You Were Sleeping” collection. Following up on several years of extremely hyped collaborations between the two, the project encompassed six total sneakers, featuring the Air Jordans 3, 4, and 39, Air Max 95, Air Force 1, and Converse Weapon. However, there was a seventh shoe in the collection, one that only popped up this week and is rumored to be a friends & family exclusive; the Chuck Taylor.
AMM’s take on the Converse Chuck is a beautiful one, and pushes the boundaries of what Nike is willing to do with their Chuck Taylor releases. The shoe prominently features Swooshes on either side, a design choice that has only ever officially happened once before, with Virgil Abloh’s version in “The Ten” collection. At the time, Virgil noted that he got a lot of pushback in trying to apply Nike’s iconic logo to a Converse shoe, and the model dropped months after the rest of the series made its debut.
The AMM version of the All-Star follows design cues and color themes from the rest of the WYWS collection. The upper comes in a soft off-white shade, and features the A logo quilted pattern on the inside. The lateral side Swoosh is embroidered into the shoe, while the medial side is a simple leather panel. Nike tongue tags and lace dubraes borrowed from the AF1 complete the look.
Unfortunately, the A Ma Maniére x Converse Chuck Taylor from their “While You Were Sleeping” project is not expected to release to the public. Pairs are being given exclusively to friends & family of the brand, with numbers rumored to be limited to just 150 worldwide.
