  • The shoe continues the animal-themed releases following the snakeskin colorway that debuted as the first widely available 1890A variant.

New Balance’s 1890 is their hottest new model this year, but the shoe’s moc-toe inspired 1890A variant has been rather elusive. This week, the hybrid model has surfaced in a new cow print edition, coming soon.

New Balance has introduced a number of retro-inspired runners this decade, capitalizing on the wave of “Y2K” fashion that has swept the globe. Many of these models take direct inspiration or components from their archives, combined with new designs like this year’s introduction, the 1890. Even before the 1890 got its start back in February, we saw early pairs of a variant design last year, during a Paris Fashion Week showcase. One of the New Balance design team members showed up to an event wearing a moccasin mashup of the sneaker, combining a moc-toe style upper with the shoe’s performance running midsole tooling. The 1890A finally arrived in a snakeskin look last month, but has yet to make another appearance on shelves. Now, we’ve discovered that NB appears to be continuing the animal theme with a cow print edition of the runner. This pair features a splotchy black and white pattern across the underlay’s faux fur panel. White nappy suede makes up the shoe’s overlays, while brown laces and soles complete the look.

NEW BALANCE 1890A “COW PRINT” RELEASE INFORMATION

New Balance’s latest colorway of their moccasin-runner mashup, the 1890A, does not have an official release date yet, but is expected to land sometime during the holiday 2026 season. Combining a minimal upper from a moc-toe shoe with a performance runner’s sole, the new pair adds a clean white and black cow print for this special edition. Pairs will be available through both New Balance and select retailers, likely retaining the prior releases $190 price tag.
