Even three years after his death, David Bowie’s music and legacy are still being celebrated around the world. This week, Vans has announced a new project to honor the legendary entertainer with a collection of footwear and apparel dropping this week.

Just over three years ago, the world lost David Bowie. The English singer/songwriter/all-around entertainer is regarded as one of the most influential musicians of all time, largely due to his massively innovative work throughout the 1970s. While Bowie’s music and acting were often pointed to as his most eccentric characteristic, others were more entranced by his style, combining bright colors with striking patterns and cuts. This week, iconic skate company Vans has announced a new project celebrating the life and legacy of the legendary performer, with a new collection of footwear honoring six of his most iconic looks.

The inspiration behind each piece in the David Bowie x Vans collection is quite hard to miss. First, the project begins with Classic Era dedicated to “Space Oddity”, Bowie’s first single. Next up, the Slip-On 47 V pays homage to the Hunky-Dory album cover with a furry pattern mimicking the coat he wore on the album art. The third silhouette, the Sk8-Hi Platform 2.0 is an ode to Bowie’s alternate personality, Ziggy Stardust, coming in red patent leather with the Bowie logo embossed throughout the upper. The Vans Old Skool in the project is dedicated to the Aladdin Sane album, featuring the iconic red and blue lightning bolt running down the toe box. Finally, Bowie’s last album is commemorated with an all-black pair of Slip-Ons with a large star emblazoned across each foot.

Vans new collection celebrating the life and legacy of David Bowie is now available via select Vans stores, with a wider online release planned for April 5th, 2019. As of writing, an official price list has not yet been released for this project, though they are likely to range between $70 and $150.
