Undercover and Nike have teamed up for some incredible drops in recent years. Now, the Japanese fashion label is preparing their Fall/Winter 2018 collection, which includes their wild interpretation of the Epic React titled Element 87.
Undercover is not your ordinary Japanese fashion label. Founded in the early 1990’s by Jun Takahashi, the brand takes an aggressive approach to its design process, an outlook inspired by The Sex Pistols. Influenced by American streetwear and the British punk movement, Undercover was born to provide with a new standard of cool in Japan. Since the brand’s inception, founder Jun has steered them towards some incredible collaborations. The latest to join the long list was previewed earlier this year, and now we have a full look at the upcoming Undercover x Nike Epic React Element 87.
Nike’s Epic React has made a large impact in a very short time. Originally released early in 2018, the Epic React introduced the Swoosh’s latest cushioning foam on a large scale, allowing all kinds of athletes to get their hands on it for the first time. Now, Nike is giving Jun Takahashi a chance to interpret the silhouette in a wild new way. The Undercover x Nike Element 87 takes the traditional look of the Epic React and rebuilds it. The Flyknit upper is replaced with a translucent material and layered with extra suede and stitching for support. The midsole is the most eye-catching part, making use of wild colors and what appear to be dense EVA plugs inserted into the soft foam.
The Undercover x Nike Element 87 was recently revealed to be released in at least five colorways. Originally, we only saw three during the brand’s runway show, but new images show that more will be included in the final release. While some come in standard color options like black & white, others combine heavy tones like maroon with a bright teal hue. Now, another update to the project has surfaced online. It seems that some of the Undercover x Nike colorways of the Element 87 have already released, prompting the partners to switch up the look and add more crazy looks to their collection.

Nike and Undercover’s latest footwear venture has finally been announced for release on September 13th, 2018. Based on the Epic React, the Element 87 will retail for $170, likely from both Nike and select Tier Zero accounts.
