Tom Sachs’ Nikecraft is back. After first being rumored to return late last year, the Mars Yard silhouette has finally surfaced in its’ highly-anticipated 2.5 iterations, with a release still expected sometime in 2020.

Tom Sachs’ Nikecraft ‘Mars Yard’ project was originally rumored to continue in 2020 with a new iteration of the space-age shoe. However, as rumors tend to be, there was very little to no evidence of a new Tom Sachs sneaker making its way to retailers before the year is through, until today. Unveiled by Half Gallery co-owner Bill Powers, we have our first look at the new Nike Mars Yard 2.5 that was first rumored over a year ago. The update makes minor changes to the materials and some design choices but otherwise leaves the iconic silhouette much as it first appeared back in 2012. The upper is constructed from a mix of translucent plastic paneling paired with suede overlays, while a flexible tongue and Free midsole round out the silhouette. However, this year’s version adds a new rubber mudguard to the toe, encapsulating the front of the shoe in a solid black rubber block for added protection.

TOM SACHS X NIKE MARS YARD 2.5 RELEASE INFORMATION

The next entry in Tom Sachs’ ongoing Nikecraft project, the Mars Yard 2.5, is currently rumored to release sometime in 2020 before the year is through, though this is an extremely short time frame for a shoe we are only just now seeing. The release is more likely to occur sometime next year, though this is entirely up in the air for now. UPDATE 1/9/21: Following the announcement of the NikeCraft Wear Test Program last week, inviting fans of the Tom Sachs x Nike collaboration to wear test the upcoming shoes themselves, Tom Sachs has been spotted wearing another new iteration of the beloved shoe, this time featuring a newly-developed midsole unit courtesy of the ACG program. The new version retains the same upper design as previous pairs, with the addition of React cushioning and increased traction underfoot. Sachs was spotted hanging out on Elizabeth Street in New York City, notably checking out brands like DSPTCH and Snow Peak along the way.
