Tom Sachs and Nike first teamed up to create in 2012. Together, they produced the Mars Yard shoe, a forward-thinking space prototype sneaker. After re-releasing the shoe last year, the two are now working on a Mars Yard Mid to release later in 2018.
Tom Sachs’ work is extremely unique, so it comes as no surprise that a brand like Nike would reach out to work with him and his distinct style. When the two first collaborated together in 2012, they created the Nike Mars Yard shoe, a prototype intended to be worn in Sachs’ Mars Yard exhibit in Los Angeles. The shoe was built to be extremely tough, combining materials like the Nike SFB boot’s tread and special NASA-developed ripstop nylon taken directly from past Mars rovers. The result is a highly developed shoe that is most comfortably worn as a casual street shoe. After the massive success of the model in 2012, Tom Sachs and Nike brought the exclusive silhouette back in 2017 for another extremely limited release. The shoes sold out everywhere and were considered by many to be one of the best releases of the year. Now, new information has surfaced online about another silhouette from the famous pair. Tom Sachs and Nike are reportedly cooking up a new mid-cut version of the rare silhouette. The Nike Mars Yard Mid is set to debut later this year with an updated color scheme as well. This time around, the duo will drop the gold highlights that surrounded the upper, instead, replacing them with a new carbon-black hue. Additional changes to the color scheme also include a cobalt blue outsole.
