UPDATE: The pre-order for this GPS shoe went live at approximately 12pm PST. Check your app to order your pair.
Well, the NikeCraft Mars Yard 3.0 release went down last week, and many participants in the app challenge went home empty handed. Fear not, because Tom Sachs and Nike have a “Participation” trophy for you, a special pair of their GPS sneaker, just for the losers.
Tom Sachs and Nike have never really been the type for a conventional sneaker release. The original Mars Yard 1.0 drop was available exclusively to a select few who were invited to “Space Camp” in New York in 2012, participating in a full day of physical challenges to receive a pair. The second iteration was still limited, and was available through select retailers, and the recent 3.0 was the most unique sneaker release we’ve likely ever seen. The ISRU app required you to sign up and participate in a series of challenges for six weeks to (hopefully) earn a chance to buy the shoes. Only the most dedicated participants were awarded sneakers, which left many people losing out.
This morning, Tom Sachs appeared on the Complex Sneaker Podcast, and shared some special news, a new pair of his NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe. However, there’s a catch to get a pair. You have to have signed up for the ISRU program, competed in some challenges, but ultimately were not allocated Mars Yard shoes. This GPS release acts as a participation trophy, and is available now via pre-order in the app. (“Now” seems to be a general term, we have yet to see it pop up in the app despite meeting this criteria.)
The shoe itself is a beautiful new take on the General Purpose Shoe, which first released back in 2022. Debuted in a similar print advertisement style, the look is simple, featuring a mix of white mesh and grey suede overlays for the main body construction. The printed Swooshes are applied in a soft vanilla yellow tone with midsoles to match, while red pull tabs give it a little bit of that Mars Yard style. The ISRU logo is printed on the heels, while the medial walls feature Tom Sachs, NikeCraft, and ISRU branding.
TOM SACHS X NIKE GENERAL PURPOSE SHOE “PARTICIPATION” RELEASE INFORMATION
The new release of Tom Sachs’ General Purpose Shoe with Nike, through their joint NikeCraft label, is a special one. Instead of an actual release, the two are offering this sneaker as a pre-order, exclusively for users of the ISRU app that was used to allocate Mars Yard 3.0s. The shoe is only available to those who did not receive an invoice for the Mars Yard, and will be a pre-order, open from now until October 3rd. Pairs will cost the usual $110, and ship in Summer 2026.
