The Whitaker Group has teamed up with Nike for a special release of the brand’s new Waffle One silhouette, celebrating the history of Nike’s Waffle Trainer with a special Bill Bowerman-inspired look, aging the shoe to appear decades old.

Nike’s new Waffle One silhouette is still waiting for its official debut, but it appears that Nike is already planning collaborations featuring the updated take on the brand’s original innovative runner. The project, which sees North Carolina boutique retailer The Social Status working on the new Waffle One, was revealed earlier this week by James Whitner, owner and founder of The Whitaker Group, which owns and operates a string of high-profile southern boutiques like Sneaker Politics, A Ma Maniere, and, of course, The Social Status. This week, Whitner took to Instagram to show off a special Whitaker Group project releasing later this week, which takes the new Nike Waffle One and ages it to perfection, inspired by Bill Bowerman’s original Waffle Runner samples from the 1960s. Constructed from mesh and suede, the Whitaker Group Waffle One features an aged midsole and polarized laces and stitching to mimic being left out in the sun for weeks on end, a look inspired by the original Bill Bowerman Waffle shoe, which he had kept buried in his backyard for decades.
