PUMA’s Running System technology may have originated in the 80s, but its still going strong over 30 years later. This week, the brand introduced the latest addition to the performance-turned-lifestyle technology, the RS-X³, or Cubed.

PUMA’s series of chunky sneakers over the past few years has been serving them well, as the German brand reported earlier this year. The trend is undoubtedly led by their revival of the Running System line, an 80s performance technology revamped as a series of great-looking lifestyle sneakers. Now, building off of the success of silhouettes like the RS-X and RS 9.8, PUMA is turning the dial up to 11 with their latest entry in the franchise: the RS-X³. Prenounced RS-X Cubed, the style builds on the success of previous entries, as evidenced through the much more intricate and bold layering of the upper. The RS-X Cubed’s 00s-inspired upper starts with a mesh base layer before adding varying layers of support through a mix of leather and suede overlays. The Running System midsole has been updated for a more modern feel, and a padded collar helps keep you locked in. The RS-X³ launched in two styles, the Level Up and Puzzle themes, both of which feature colorful uppers in PUMA’s distinct style.
