PUMA’s revival of their ’80s Rider Foam has birthed two brand new silhouettes, the Future Rider and the Style Rider, both of which have yet to appear on retail shelves apart from the other. This month, the two models are dropping in the “Play On” pack, coming soon.

In the 1980s, running technologies were in a very different place. These days, we have different gels and foams underfoot to provide cushioning, but in the early days of sneaker technology, the materials underfoot were much simpler. Around that time, PUMA introduced the Fast Rider, which looked to new Federbein rubber outsoles for extra shock absorption, combined with the soft cushioning of their Rider Foam. Since then, the technology in the silhouette has long been obsolete, but the style of the Fast Rider remains popular, leading the German sportswear brand to revive Rider Foam midsoles late last year. Now, the Rider series contains two variations, the Future Rider and the Style Rider, both of which are releasing later this month as a part of the “Play On” pack.
