Nike struck gold with the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly 4% but as they are always looking for progression, a revamped model was just introduced. Meet the new Nike ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT%, the sneaker that looks to take over the running world.

Upon the release of the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly 4%, Nike took it upon themselves to receive feedback from the top running performers that used the shoe. Many miles and marathons later, the model gets newly added features and technology that are guaranteed to bring better performance capabilities and even more comfort than its predecessor. Brett Holt, Nike VP of running explained it perfectly saying, “This shoe is truly the result of our athletes, sports scientists, engineers and designers closely collaborating throughout the entire process of design, testing, and manufacturing, we are all so excited to see the NEXT% continue to push the limits of human performance on marathon courses around the world.” Evidently, the team over at Nike took a lot of time with the process and feels very confident with their new updated version. Let’s get a better look at what new features this futuristic runner has taken on.

First, the upper features the debut of the material Vaporweave. This newly founded material brings benefits of being much lighter than Nike Flyknit, more breathable and it also absorbs a lot less water than the original. Just those added features alone make a significant difference in a running shoe. To better performance even more, new custom traction patterns can be found on the forefoot grip so when the courses see wetter weather, the athleticism of the runner is not halted. Upgrades are not solely centered around performance either as features that increased the wearability of the sneaker were implemented as well.

The most visible of the bunch is the solution to conventional lacing systems putting pressure on the sensitive part of the foot which brings forth a lacing system that is slanted laterally as it moves down towards the toe. Other additions include an added foam pod inside the heel that gives more support around the Achilles and a renovated Nike ZoomX foam cushioning system in the midsole that is decreased in diameter from 11mm to 8mm to provide more stability for the athlete.

The updates will not likely end with this model as Nike will look to further the expansion of new technology and additions. As an example, the NEXT% in the runner’s name just isn’t there for the aesthetic. The added wording has a symbolic meaning behind it that represents looking forward to every new race day as a chance to cross the finish line a little faster. As runners’ mindsets tend to always look for that next percent closer to their goals, Nike plans to help them achieve them.

For the debut, the sneaker takes on a vibrant green upper and laces that demands the eye’s attention. Added details like a big Nike Swoosh on the toebox take center stage that flows to the medial sides of the heels. Other branding consists of a black Nike Swoosh on the lateral sides, and a Nike logo on the tongue. To top the runner off, it sits on top of a gradient green and white midsole. Overall the updated version boasts many different opportunities to wear as it is a very eye-pleasing silhouette that can be used as a casual sneaker or a great performance shoe if you’re looking to put a lot of miles on it.
