The vintage Nike Waffle Trainer 2 made its grand return last month, revived in retro form after a several-year hiatus. Now, it appears Nike is bringing the trainer back in full, as evidenced by two new colorways that launched overseas this week.

Nike’s Waffle Trainer is one of the brand’s oldest sneakers. Dreamt up by Bill Bowerman himself when he was still the Oregon track coach, the Waffle shoe was intended to give runners better grip on the track and more control over their running. The first samples were made exactly how the name implies- by pouring rubber directly into his wife’s waffle maker to create outsoles. While the initial tests left something to be desired, finally Bowerman struck gold, creating the Nike Waffle Trainer in the process. Now, decades and hundreds of thousands of sneakers later, Nike is paying homage to the original with the revival of the Waffle Trainer 2. This week, the classic silhouette emerged in two new colorways for Spring, a bright mix of pink and yellow for the “Fireberry” look, while the second is much more tame, mixing “Velvet Brown” uppers with gold Swooshes.
