The Nike Waffle family is expanding once more, adding another new silhouette to the lineup in 2022. The new model appears to be a parred-down version of the classic, going by the name of the Waffle Debut.
The Nike Waffle Debut is almost here. Unveiled by the Swoosh earlier this week, the new Debut model looks to add a more approachable and affordable version of the classic Waffle sneaker to the brand’s offerings. For the unfamiliar, the Nike Waffle was originally created in the 1960s by Bill Bowerman, one of the brand’s founders, and the longtime track & field coach at the University of Oregon. Bowerman was constantly experimenting with footwear to give his athletes a competitive edge, and he struck gold one day when pondering his wife’s waffle iron. Hypothesizing that the grid pattern would provide excellent traction on a number of surfaces, Bowerman filled the iron up with rubber, and the first Nike Waffle sneakers were born. Decades later, the Waffle Debut comes from the same innovative spirit, simplifying the shoe into a nylon upper with suede overlays, and an extended Swoosh that wraps around the rear of the shoe to form a pull tab.

Nike’s upcoming Waffle Debut sneaker has not yet been announced for release, though they are expected to launch sometime in the coming weeks. The sleek new takedown model will likely launch from both Nike and select retail partners, with a price tag of just $70 for the latest member of the Waffle family.
