Nike’s ever-evolving running technologies has made some massive strides in recent years. Most notably, React foam replaced the infamous Lunarlon for a more flexible fit. Now, the technology joins the Epic Phantom for a laceless new look.

Nike’s React cushioning technology has been widely available on the market for just over a year now, and it is definitely safe to say its a hit. While the initial response to the frankly poorly-treaded Nike Epic React was completely warranted, the Swoosh has done a magnificent job recovering since then and creating a technology that not only looks but feels like the next step in innovation.

Nike is always thinking ahead. Even when the Epic React first released, the team at the brand’s famous innovation kitchen was likely hard at work cooking up the new silhouette we see today. Titled the Nike Epic Phantom React, the new look builds upon the second generation of Epic React with one simple feature: no laces. While we’ve already seen one laceless React runner in the form of the Rise silhouette, the new Phantom is a whole different ball game. Instead of simply heightening the collar and making the knit tighter, the Phantom replaces certain threads surrounding the ankle with elastic, making them more form fitting and adaptable to the athlete. Aside from that, the Epic Phantom React is nearly identical to its laced predecessor, from the outlined Swoosh to the colorful knit patterns.

Nike’s latest React-cushioned running sneaker is scheduled to make its debut next month on May 2nd, 2019. The Epic Phantom React has not yet been given an official retail price, though we expect them to be listed at or above the standard Epic React’s $150.
