The Space Hippie is cleared for landing. Originally announced by Nike earlier this year, the Space Hippie collection pushes their Move to Zero sustainability project a few steps ahead, thanks to recycled yarn uppers and reused rubber midsoles.

Nike’s push for sustainability in its products has led to some interesting innovation in recent years, all of which is coming together for its latest environmentally safe project, the Space Hippie collection. Originally shown off during the brand’s Future Forum in New York City early this year, the Space Hippie program turns excess or waste materials directly into new sneakers and apparel. The initial collection features three shoes, the Space Hippie 01, 02, and 03, with a fourth not yet confirmed for release. Each shoe’s upper is constructed from “Space Waste” yarn, which is made from recycled polyester and plastic bottles, with scraps from t-shirts and other yarns mixed in as well. Additionally, the Space Hippie collection introduces a new midsole rubber for Nike, called Crater Foam, which consists of a blend of all of Nike’s standard foam midsoles mixed with excess Grind Rubber and recycled Zoom Air for maximum comfort.
