The Nike Challenger is not the first running shoe Swoosh fans think of when they think of the 1980s. However, the Challenger was game-changing at the time, so much so that Nike has brought it back in all of its original glory for 2020.

Nike’s vintage catalogs have been popping up regularly in the SNKRS app over the past few weeks, acting as a not-so-subtle heads up about what the Swoosh has in store for the year. Most recently, the brand shared an inside look at an old-school Nike catalog from the 1980s, showing off a number of silhouettes for running, training, and basketball. Keen-eyed fans may have picked out the Challenger from this lineup, a retro running shoe shown in the first slide of Nike’s latest rewind, and one that has been slowly rolling out to retailers all month. Already available in some countries overseas, this week we have another early look at colorways set to drop this year. The first pits the Challenger in a simple white and UNC blue color scheme, applying blue suede and leather overlays to a white mesh and nylon base. The second is a little louder, beginning with dark maroon for the underlays before adding support in navy suede, while a gold tongue and midsole complete the look.
