The Nike LD-1000 is coming back this year. The runner originated in the 1970s and prominently features the brand’s iconic Waffle sole technology. This week, we have an early look at a new in-line color of the model for 2024, dressing the shoe in a dark “Vintage Green” shade.
Nike’s LD-1000 originally launched in 1977, and was marketed as a huge leap in running innovations. The shoe used their patented Waffle outsole technology for traction, and featured a wide, flare heel that was intended for stability and traction for road runners. However, the silhouette was recalled, for actually causing more injuries than it prevented. Still an important piece of Nike history, the shoe has influences many models after it, including the initial Sacai collaborations from a few years ago.
The sleek runner is coming back this year with a full retro push, which kicks off this week with a release from Stüssy (releasing tomorrow), followed by a range of in-line colors. The first of these standard-issue models has emerged today, sporting a “Vintage Green” shade for the shoe’s nylon base layer and suede overlays. Bicoastal green Swooshes add a bright accent, while white and black round out the rest of the look.
