Kevin Durant’s signature sneaker line is still growing, but Nike is already well underway with retros of some original models. Next year, the KD 5 is expected to return to shelves, with fan-favorite colors like the “DMV” pair among the early drops.

Nike’s fifth signature sneaker for Kevin Durant arrived in 2012, and marked a vast departure from its predecessor. The prior entry in the series, the KD4, was a sleek low-top model with an enormous strap over the tongues, and had as much lifestyle appeal as it did court performance. The KD5 took a step back from the low-top approach and added a huge collar to the new model, extending much higher up the shin in the front than its lower heel section. The 5 introduced a seamless Hyperfuse upper to the signature line, using Nike’s patented method of fusing three synthetic layers into one for an ultra durable construction. The KD5 has cultural relevance, too, being the model the Slim Reaper wore during his historic 50/40/90 season. Next year, the KD 5 will join Nike’s growing lineup of retros from Durant’s series, with iconic colorways like the neon “DMV” color seen here making a return. The rerelease is expected to retain all of the technology from its original 2012 run including visible Air heels and a forefoot Zoom unit.

NIKE KD 5 “DMV” RELEASE INFORMATION

Nike’s plans for the Kd 5 retro are currently unannounced, though leaks from SneakerMarket.RO say that pairs will begin to arrive in Spring or Summer 2027. Among the first releases will be the “DMV” colorway, dressed in a neon combination of Bright Crimson and Volt, with grey accents to subdue the loud colors a bit. Pairs will be available from both Nike and select retailers though pricing for this retro is currently unknown.
