Nike’s innovation team has been hard at work the past few years, given the number of exciting new technologies and advancements they’ve announced in that time. The latest of these is Joyride, a new system of beaded plastic meant to improve comfort and responsiveness in runners.
Nike Joyride technology is not the first footwear innovation to be based around responsive plastic beads. Some may recognize similar iterations in adidas’ Boost or Puma’s NRGY, but we’re always excited to see what twist Nike delivers in their version. This week, the brand showed off a number of new silhouettes to show off the new Joyride technology. The first to release will be the performance model, the Nike Joyride Run Flyknit, in accordance with the Swoosh’s usual order of operations.
Divided into sectioned ‘Pods’, Joyride beads are distributed amongst the various zones in the midsole, usually with a larger concentration of beads in the heel section. While the Joyride Run Flyknit primarily focuses on a beaded heel strike, the other silhouettes Nike will be offering in the following weeks separate the cushioning innovation into various zones spanning the full length of the shoe. However, the Run Flyknit is built purely for more responsiveness when in your step while the front section helps to “facilitate a smooth transition forward”. The Nike Joyride Run Flyknit will initially launch with a white upper and colorful midsole to show off the new cushioning technology, before releasing in a palette of standard-issue colorways.

Nike latest midsole cushioning will make its global debut next month in the form of the Joyride Run Flyknit on August 15th, 2019. The sleek new silhouette will retail for a hefty $180, which is unsurprising given the new beaded technology and will release from both Nike and select retailers.
